Brake Inspections in Port Richey, FL
Don't put it off
You need the brakes in your car, truck, or SUV to be functional and reliable. Brake inspections should be a part of your annual vehicle maintenance plan. We recommend having a break inspection performed on your vehicle about every 12,000 miles (for many people that is once a year).
At Raymond Charles Automotive, our experienced auto technicians will conduct a brake inspection which includes checking your brake system's linings, and other important elements of the brake system. Once we have completed the diagnostics, we will be able to provide you with accurate service recommendations per your vehicle manufacturers instructions and the individual brake components that need attention.

A brake fluid exchange is not the most common reason that people come in for brake repairs, but it does need to be done in some instances. We can take a look at your vehicle and let you know if a brake fluid exchange service is needed. We do this based on your vehicle manufacturers recommendations. During a brake fluid exchange, we remove the old brake fluid and replace it with new fluid that meets your manufacturers specifications.
How Do Your Brakes Work?
Your brakes are an essential part of keeping you and your loved ones safe while driving in a vehicle. If you can't stop, the results could be catastrophic. That is why the brake health of your car is so important.
When you apply pressure to your brake pedal, the brake fluid (hydraulic fluid) is pressurized by the master cylinder. The hydraulic fluid then passes through the brake lines to specialized cylinders that are seated next to the brakes of each wheel. There are two common types of brake systems on vehicles: disc brake systems and drum brake systems.
Disk Brake Systems- most common
With disk brakes, the set-up includes a disc (or rotor), a caliper, and a brake pad. The pressure is applied to the brake pedal, the brake fluid (hydraulic fluid) is padded through the brake lines, prompting the caliper to press the brake pad up against the disk. When the brake pad pushes against the disk, the friction caused by that action allows the vehicle to slow down and ultimately stop.
Drum Brake Systems
Drum Brakes are the less common of the two brake systems, but work in a similar fashion to the disk brakes. Drum brakes are composed of a brake drum and brake shoes. When the brake pedal is pressed down, there is a cylinder that presses the brake shoes (and brake linings) up against the interior surface of the brake drum. This action creates the friction the vehicle needs to slow down.
